    Hello Hello! Empty Hello Hello!

Post  Knocturnal Wed Jul 14, 2010 11:20 am

    Whatsup everyone,

Wanted to come in and say hello and see what everyone's plans are for FFXIV. I am in the midst of getting a new PC to run this BEAST that's coming out. Feel free to give me feedback on this build:

The package with the Mobo, case, RAM & CPU here:

Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more!

    The GPU here:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121383

I know I will need to pickup a HD & DVD RW, but what do you think? I will also be running this into my 42 LCD 1080P TV and my receiver so think about that as you look at the video card & mobo audio setup. Will I need an audio card to put sound through my receiver? The mobo natively outputs 7.1,, just not sure if it will route to my receiver...

p.s. I know I could prob use a good 8GB RAM, but this will do for now since it's 2X2 and there are 4 slots so I can upgrade when I have the extra funds.

Also, what is everyone's approach to getting on the same server? Everyone planning on staying together for this? I hope so, will be a nice reunion to get back with my old friends!

    Cheers!

PC looks good for the price. It should run 14 on med-high settings with no problems. Your mobo looks a lil weak. I didnt see if it supported SGI or CrossFire for future upgrades. Also depending if you run Windows 7 on it, you def going to want to up your ram to atleast 8gb but you still have time for that. Also dont skimp on a decent PSU too. 750w+ dual rails should keep you stable for future upgrades and if you plan to OC.

So, I don't know how to OC. Maybe something I might mess with down the road, but out of the box, I don't plan on OC'ing this setup. I agree with the RAM, and will add another 4GB later.

Good point on the MB, maybe I will look at some other DIY combos out there - I'm trying to keep my budget for the raw system (less GPU) at $600, then buy either the GTX 460 or 465 (whichever one is based on the new F104 chipset).

As for the cooling fan, do you know if that kit comes with a "stock" cooling fan, or do I need to buy an aftermarket one for my CPU? I agree with the PSU too, but for now I will likely stick with the 650W that comes with it until I need/afford to upgrade.

Thanks so much for everyone's feedback (except for Dale, /grin)

Also - what's the LS plans come release? I assume everyone will try to get on the same server or what?

A AMD stock CPU fan will come with your CPU. It never hurts to get a good aftermarket fan to keep your CPU a lil cooler but its not needed if you do not plan to OC in the vary near future. I pre-ordered my CE version of the game. I prolly just play where Nan or the rest of the LS that plans to play.

I'm trying to put all my money into hardware, and also don't want to pay for an OS. Anyway to get a torrent of Windows 7 and have it activated? I know with XP it was pretty damn easy as long as you don't register it, but Windows 7 I have never tried.

It appears there are many torrents for Windows 7 activators, but I also don't any disk for it...

Do any of you guys know how I could get everything needed to install a genuine copy of Windows 7 without buying it OEM?
