    RDM - April Update

Post  Klonen on Mon Mar 30, 2009 8:46 am

    http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics/ff11us/detail/4299/detail.html

    Tier II En-spells. Yay.

    And "Composure":
(Lv.50 Ability Delay: 5 min. Duration: 5 min.)
Increases accuracy and lengthens recast time. Enhancement effects gained through white and black magic you cast on yourself last longer.

Sounds interesting. It doesn't say if it wears off after one spell or is usable all the time. Would be nice to have a longer Refresh/Haste for the same MP cost.

Not as exciting as what they did for WHM, but I think they've done a good job here of adding something nice, but not too powerful.

Wow, BG is up in arms about this one. I don't get it. RDM doesn't really need much, I'll be happy with a new JA to play with. Assuming this doubles spell duration and recast, just activate Composure, cast Refresh and Haste, cancel Composure. Refresh will last 5 minutes at which point Composure will be usable again. It's 260MP in 5 minutes vs. 220MP.

They don't give many details though.

actually, compure only lengthens duration of spells we cast on ourselves
new enspells only work on the first hit of a muitihit weapon, or dual wield. however, gives other support jobs besides nin to excel at melee. if you think about it. depending on the damage the new enspells cause. considering all they are giving us can be a dual edged sword in a way tho. just have to consider how and when to use each. that's all. just alot of ppl are only gonna read the bad outta it, but you have to consider all the options. that's all. most ppl are stuck in the rdm/nin thing, so of course most of em are gonna see the bad out of it. me, we know what sub i use when i melee, and i can see this helping me in the long run. all a matter of perspective i guess.

the En-spells is just a sad ass update compared to the whm one. En-Spells really? yeay for a addition to melee rdm that wasnt needed.

looking at what whm got i figured rdm would get some neat buff to use on their enfeebs, since whm now cast stoneskin with cures wtf lol, but i guess they gave rdm a elemental seal without /blm. go slow II composer

Not even, the only thing they gave us is longer lasting self buffs. Composure adds accuracy not magic acc.
Nice for soloing. Longer Refresh, Haste, Phalanx, cancel it so you can use Utsusemi like normal.

    Lol.
This does make RDM even better for soloing though. In just 2 cycles of Refresh/Haste with Composure, you save enough MP for a tier 3 nuke+more... assuming it doubles duration.

what i think se was trying to get at with the rdm update is to try and get ppl to really use the versitility that rdm does have. yet right away all everyone thinks of is ways to make rdm/nin even more powerful/less powerful. gah. that just digusts me

Versatility is nice, yes. RDM can melee, DD, and tank effectively in some situations. But in each of those cases there are one or more jobs that will perform better than RDM.

RDM/NIN is however the absolute best in soloing because it has sustainability and survivability that no other job can match on its own. The focus is on ways to make our job's best aspect better, rather than its mediocre aspects slightly less mediocre. That's why there is focus on RDM/NIN.

i tend to think that rdm/nin was overpowered to begin with, now it's just gonna be broken. which makes it harder for ppl like me to try and march their own way. I have never been a fan of rdm/nin. yes i do agree with it's pro's, however, i just don't like it myself. i get laughed at enough as it is for my uncovential subs, so now i'm gonna get laughed at all the more. see my dilema?

I understand that, but like anything, subjobs are situational. Since RDM is such a versatile job, choice of subs should be based on what will perform best in the situation or goal you have. NIN, WHM, BLM, BLU, PLD, DRK, WAR, SCH, SMN, BRD are all viable subs for RDM, and no one will laugh at you for using a seemingly unconventional sub in a situation where it is useful. You will get laughed at though for using a sub in a situation where it has no benefit, or where another sub will be more beneficial. This is the same for any job, although more-so for RDM because of the wide range of viable subs.

In the realm of incredibly tough solo fights, no sub other than NIN offers the sustainability needed. Obviously fights like that don't appeal to everyone, but many RDMs find pride in defeating enemies that normally require a full party or more.

At this point I'm thinking of just erasing this whole message and replacing it with, "Shit's situational."

    Edit: What Gcatt said.

see, i don't like soloing. never did. to me, it's more fun with a group of ppl i know. friends or not. if i can help the group do what needs to be done on any of my jobs, then i feel more pride in that then when i do solo something. that's just the way i am. yes i like a challange, and have been known to solo some things, but not the big shit. i like the comraderie of this game. lol. maybe that stems for my time in the military. you always do something with a group. an objective is a group objective. if that makes any sense at all. i have more fun watching ppl getting drops. you and g may like soloing, but that was never the way i liked playing this game. to each their own i say. ^^

Yeah, totally agree. It's not for everyone. All depends on how you play and what you enjoy doing in the game.

Please do not base RDM skill off of the Avesta Videos. The ones where he does Seriyu and Suzaku are from back when there was no Magic Resistance Build up on HNMS. Also, Avesta did solo the mob by being the only one who damaged it. but in some of the fights were links were a possibility he would have adds that would kill the adds. Sure Avesta is awesome but a lot of his older videos are from a time that it was "easier" to do those things. I loved soloing on RDM thats why i played the job actually.

I don't want to start anything just when people would tell me that i will never be like Avesta i got really pissed since well he had everything a RDM could ever possibly want for gear and did things in the "easier" days.

ALSO because I LOVE RDM and because this is a RDM thread about how awesome the job is and i read something about subjobs HERE is a post i did a long time ago on FFXIwiki about RDM and its various Subs.

I have at one time or another used almost every job as a sub for my RDM. I know most people feel the only Subs then need for RDM are BLM,WHM,DRK but i would like to expand the minds of RDMs everywhere to the possibility of others. I was thinking of making this into a guide eventaully but i would like to get others perspective/usess of sub jobs they have tried do recognition would of course be given.
Now onto the guide. This guide is mainly for 75 RDMs
    RDM/WAR
I have yet to find many uses for this combo but have used it in certain situations that may cause me to need to take hate fast from someone. This sub offers Provoke, along with def and att bonus traits and berserk and warcry. Not a bad choice for PvP also works well for farming if one is fighting weakish mobs and doesnt yet have THF. Offers Deffender which is a def bonus ability that lasts the full recasttimer effectivly giving u a constant def up attack down ability. also offers larger melee stats.
    RDM/MNK
I can find no use for this combo please comment if u have tried and found a resonable use for it.
    RDM/WHM
Probably one of the most common subs for RDM as it offers Cure spells such as blinda and paralyna, also gives the spells such as Curaga. along with the party buffs this job offers the divine seal abilit that doubles the potency of your next cure spell. Personally i love this because i will sue Convert, then Divine Seal Cure4 on myself. this fully heals me without waisting half the mp i just converted to get. Used mainly as a Main Heal in EXP party along with the Occasional End Game Situation that may requier mass paralyna, silena, etc.
    RDM/BLM
Easyly the most popular and widespread sub for RDM. Offers Drain and Aspir along with a large boost to INT along with a nice MP boost. this job also grants the abilit of Elemental Seal which can be very nice for landing debuffs on HNMs. Also give warp, and the elemental skill debuffs(Frost,Choke, etc). Used a lot when RDM is not main healer in exp partys. can also be used to solo many things as RDM. Personally i solo a lot of my exp BLM style on puddings.
    RDM/THF
Used for Farming. Offers a nice evasion boost traits, along with Gil Finder and Treasure Hunter 1.
    RDM/BRD
Gives Ballad1, used mainly if a RDM would get invited to a Manaburn as the refresher. Refresh + Ballad1 = 4mp/tick which any mana burn will love. Songs are also used to activate Melody Earings that give +5 or +6 Evasion skill which is very nice when duoing with a partner that relys on Heavy Evasion.
    RDM/BST
Very overlooked sub for RDM. Charm + Leave = Instant Agro Control. Example, Adamantoise with HNM Shell. Rare does it happen that he spawns and is pulled succesfully to a safe spot. as RDM/BST u can Charm the DC Raptors and Giant Birds lead them away then use Leave and either make them despawn or simple be away from the Turle and the Shell themselves. Another use is when fightn Oryu. a RDM/BST can charm a worm and make it fight another one thusly takening care of 2 worms with one charm. Also can be used to farm a little higher lvld mobs but charm rates decrease a lot when tryn to do Tough mobs. Also it should be said that the Charm Rate has a direct corrilation with the lvl of your BST, ex: 75 BST main will charm much better subbed then a 37 BST main even when capped at 37 itself.
    RDM/DRK
Third of the most used Subs for RDM and rightly so. Offers the Spell STUN which can be devistating to an enemy when combined with our brilliant 2hr of Chainspell. Asked for/requiered by most HNM LSs for their RDMs to have befor being allowed to join. Also fun to use in PvP, offers the WS of Vorpal Blade which can be devistating to enemy's along with Stun being brilliant to frustrate your opposision. Stun can also be used for hate control while kiting. Also offers Last Resort and Soul Eater for a large attack bonus but i find these abilitys to be a waist for the most part unless im just playn around.
    RDM/PLD
Another Very Overlooked sub for RDM. Personally this is my favorit sub to use. Like DRK offers the additon of Vorpal Blade for your Sword which as many RDMs know we get screwed in WS for Sword as Savage Blade is our best and it kinda sucks though it looks cool. In Opposison to the savage DRKs ability, PLD offers Deff and Survivability. With Sentinal and the def traits that PLD gives RDMs can live much longer. Flash is also a brilliant tool for hate control as well as a speedy claim. Possibly my most beloved Trait PLD offers is Shield Mastery, which adds a TP bonus when blocking with your shield and also makes it so u have 100% spell interuption down if the attack that hit u during a spell cast was blocked by your shield. My Absolute favorit part of this sub is Auto-refresh. True u get this trait with /SMN but with PLD u have much better melee stats and abilitys wich is just love in my book. Personally i have yet to be deffeated in PvP with /PLD. MNKs have even attempted Hundred Fists to defeat me but o wait Phalanx StoneSkin and Sentinal = Hundred Fists of ZERO Damge MUWAHAHAHAHAHA (waist of 2hr you can have this)
    RDM/SMN
Offers Auto Refresh along with the Ability to give your Party Shinning Ruby which is very nice verse avatar 2hrs and garudas Aerial Armor. Can be used to solo Golden Salvage Assault using Garuda and casting aerial armor on her before cheaking each chest. also can be used as a Main Healer sub if the WHM cures such as paralyna wont be needed.
    RDM/PUP
Puppet is capped at the lvl of the /PUP. however as with every job 1-12 sub pup can be very nice because you have yourself your own little cute cure bot. other then early lvl soloing however there is no real application for /pup as most other jobs offer better bonuses.
    RDM/COR
have Yet to try this sub. i have heard that while COR is subed your die rolls effects are halved as well as the bonus to having the actual job in the party for that roll is negated.
    RDM/RNG
Offers WideScan ability for camping NMs. Also used to gain access to Bow WSs. RDM have archery skill for a reason and that reason is to solo. though subbing RNG doesnt offer much but the WS it is nice to use while skilling up your archery.
    RDM/DRG
No access to Wyvern, has Acc boost and jump abilitys, other uses please help with i have never actully used this sub.
    RDM/BLU
    1. About 30-40 more MP than /WHM (depending on what spells you set.)
    2. About 40-60 more HP than any other sub (depending on what spells you set.)
    3. More MND than a /WHM (depending on what spells you set.)
    4. More INT than a /BLM (depending on what spells you set.)
    5. Even more STR than a WAR! (depending on the spells you set)
    6. Attack bonuses
    7. Healing Breeze (Heals More then Curaga)
    8. The all mighty and life saving Headbutt.
    9. All the BLU spell combo Abilities up to lvl37 (auto-regan, Beastkiller, Clearmind stacked, exc.
    10. And the Grand Finale...... Phalanx + Cocoon = Brick wall
When you use /BLU you can take full advantage of all the aspects of a RDM. With the customizable stats, blu abilities, spells and enhantsments you will awe yourself when your soloing and awe your party members.
    RDM/SAM
Can be used to solo assault "saving private raeif"(sp) Meditate for TP then gather chigoes together and cyclon them to death. because /SAM doesnt offer a full100% tp this wont make it a perfect solo but it will help a large amount.
    RDM/NIN
Very Nice Melee sub. offers shadows which make u take hardly any damage for when your shadows are actully down u have SS up and still take 0 damage effectivly making u take 0 damage for a whole fight unless mobs hit to fast or to hard. Offers Dual Wield which is very nice but in many melee solo situations mobs hit so fast that just using this sub for the Shadows and going Sword+Shield can be a better idea. A new note that has just been brought to my attention by a RDM on these Forums was the use of the elemental Ninjutsu. Even if your spell itself hits for 0 the elemental down that the spell does still hits full force making this an interesting idea. Used when solon Super NMs aka Gration, Fenrir, Genbu. though u dont fight these mobs with your sword or dagger not having the shadows that NIN offers would make them close to impossible. i would consider them fully impossible without Shadows but /BLU with Def upping ability is putting a glimmer in my eye that /NIN may not be your only choice.
    RDM/SCH
Can boost our native magic skills with the correct Gimore on. It boosts our skills themselves so in affect the correct grimore is like a piece of gear with +skill on it. As such this doesnt ave much affect on our white magic as healn skill is kinda meh and we dont have any divine magic to talk of anymore. however it can boost our enfeeb and elemental and dark skills to a nice amount. With access to Aspir, Drain, and the almighty Regen 2 this sub offers many things BLM does with the exception of ES,Warp,Escape, and Sleepga. With an ever so slightlyless of an MP boost this job has its place for RDMs. I solo puddings on my RDM to recap after a few deaths and i usually go sub BLM but i dont use ES sleep but on the super rare occasion that i get like ubber resisted. SO i can see this sub being a great asset with solon like a BLM. As far as the -50% casting time and the half mp cost abilitys since nothing RDMs really do cost much mp or take that long to fire off i dont see these things being all that usefull. People will argue the -50% casting time can be used for claming but remember that when u cast to fast on a mob u get stunned.

i dont know much about SAM. can they miss the WSs while their 2hr is activated? if so Flash might have saved ya.

But that Extended spell duration sounds really hot for soloing. Wont have to stop kiting to cast Refresh as much.
